TweetLens

A practical search guide

How to find an old tweet when you remember only part of it

Start with the account and a few distinctive words. Add a date range if the results are too broad. If the original post is gone, you'll need a copy someone saved while it was available.

You remember the account and some words

On X, sign in and use advanced search to combine words with an account. A distinctive phrase usually narrows the results more than a broad topic such as “stocks.” Use the From these accounts field to keep replies by other people out of your search.

You can also type an account operator into X search. For example:

from:michaeljburry GPU

Switch to the Latest results view to inspect dates. If you remember the month or year, set a range in advanced search rather than scrolling through a profile. Search results can still omit posts; an empty result doesn't prove the post never existed.

You remember roughly when it was posted

In TweetLens, choose an account from the public collection and use after: and before: with a keyword. This example narrows the Burry GPU search to January and February 2026:

GPU after:2026-01-01 before:2026-03-01

Try the dated search. These are TweetLens's date operators. X's advanced-search form has its own date fields.

Read the surrounding thread, quoted post and original timestamp when available. A saved line without its context can change the meaning. Missing parents or replies are gaps, so don't fill them in from memory.

You have a link, but the post has disappeared

Paste the original post URL into the Wayback Machine and look for a capture. Try the URL you actually saved. A capture may be missing, and a page can load without its images or replies because X uses dynamic content. The Internet Archive explains these limits in its Wayback guide.

TweetLens also has previously captured VolIsDead posts no longer available on X. That shows what's possible when a saved copy exists. TweetLens can't recover an arbitrary deleted post that wasn't captured.

You're looking for your own posts

Request your X account archive from Settings, under Your account. X verifies your identity before preparing the download. Once it's ready, keep the ZIP and use its HTML view to browse your data.

The export can contain private information, including direct messages. Keep it private and don't publish the ZIP or send someone your password to search it. An export request also isn't a promise to recover posts you've deleted.
